About Razuma String Quartet
The Razuma String Quartet (RSQ) was founded at the 2025 Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop. It consists of violinists Sophia Werner and Emma Servadio, violist Janice Leung and cellist Nathan Francisco and has been mentored by Merry Peckham and Kim Kashkashian. Its members study at The Juilliard School and the New England Conservatory, and their competition accolades include the Juilliard Concerto Competition, Stulberg International Competition, and America Viola Society Senior Division Competition among others.
Passionate chamber musicians, the Razumas have attended festivals including Kneisel Hall, Taos School of Music, Bowdoin, Verbier Festival Academy, and the Heifetz Ashkenasi/Kirschbaum Chamber Seminar. At both Juilliard and the New England Conservatory, all members of the RSQ have participated in their schools’ esteemed Honors Chamber Music programs. This led to intensive chamber music study and concert appearances at Alice Tully Hall and Jordan Hall.
The Razuma String Quartet derived their name from Count Andrey Razumovsky, who was the beneficiary of Beethoven’s Op. 59 string quartets. While at The Perlman Music Program, the Razumas spent two weeks learning Beethoven’s monumental String Quartet, Op. 59, No. 2. They fell in love with it, and they credit its incredible intricacies to the conception of their heartfelt quartet sound.
Sophia Werner, violin
Equally at home as a chamber musician and soloist, Sophia Werner, 22, studies at The Juilliard School with Laurie Smukler and Donald Weilerstein as a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship. In 2024, she won the Juilliard Concerto Competition and appeared as soloist with the Juilliard Orchestra. She has also performed twice with Juilliard’s AXIOM ensemble, the Adelphi Orchestra, and Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, and has performed with the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes. In 2025, she won Second Prize at the Hellam International Competition; in 2023, she was awarded the Bach Prize at the Stulberg International String Competition, and won the Adelphi Young Artist competition the previous year.
An avid chamber musician, Sophia has attended The Perlman Music Program and Kneisel Hall. She has also attended the Verbier Academy as a Soloist. Her piano trio made their New York City debut at Alice Tully Hall in 2024. She has collaborated with members of the Brentano, Cavani and Mendelssohn quartets, and participated in masterclasses with members of the Juilliard, Shanghai, Takács and Brentano quartets; Hilary Hahn; and Donald Weilerstein.
She performs on an 1864 J.B. Vuillaume violin and a James Tubbs bow, on generous loan from Juilliard.
Emma Servadio, 21, is of Taiwanese-Israeli descent and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in violin performance at the New England Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Miriam Fried, on a Dean’s Scholarship. Former teachers include Shmuel Ashkenasi and Peter Jarvis, and she has spent past summers at the Perlman Music Program Chamber Workshop, as a young artist at Kneisel Hall and at the Heifetz Ashkenasi/Kirschbaum Chamber Seminar, and performing at Domaine Forget de Charlevoix’s chamber intensive. Some of her most memorable musical experiences thus far include performing for Anne Sophie Mutter in Boston Symphony Hall, performing on NPR’s “From the Top”, and performing her piano compositions in Carnegie Hall. Deeply committed to chamber music, her piano trio, “Trio Tyche ” was nominated as a New England Conservatory Honors Ensemble and presented a full Jordan Hall recital in Fall of 2024.
Janice Leung, viola
Janice Leung is a violist originally from Hong Kong. A passionate chamber musician and advocate for new music, her path has brought her to share her music around the world. Janice made her solo debut at the age of 11 with the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra. She has won first prize in the America Viola Society Senior Division Competition. Most recently Janice earned recognition at the Juilliard Viola Concerto Competition, as an alternate to the first prize. Her love for chamber music and collaboration was nurtured for many years on Shelter Island, at the Perlman Music Program, where she grew up at the Littles Program and returned this past summer to the Chamber Music Workshop. She has also attended Kneisel Hall as a Young Artist, where in addition to spending seven weeks diving deep into chamber music master works she mentored young students at the program for Maine Students. Janice has worked closely with musicians such as Itzhak Perlman, Joel Krosnick, Merry Peckham, and Kim Kashkashian—experiences that continue to shape her artistic path.
Janice is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree at The Juilliard School, where she studies with Carol Rodland as a proud recipient of the Kovner Fellowship.
