The Karunas, founded in 2025 at The Juilliard School, are Gold Medalists and Composer Prize winners of the 2026 St. Paul String Quartet Competition. The Quartet derives their name from the concept of “karuna,” which, in the Sanskrit tradition, translates to “compassion.” Guided by this principle, they embrace chamber music as a living practice of compassion.

The Renaissance String Quartet is driven by a desire to reimagine the role and capacity of the string quartet as a vehicle for change, inspiring audiences, students, and collaborators around the world. The season concludes with the dynamic Archambeau-Dastoor duo whose innovative program explores the diverse history of the duo form, from two-part inventions to opera fantasies and contemporary works. Always curious, the duo continues to explore and expand the repertoire of violin-cello duos, expanding into folk music and new music.
