Perlman Music Program Suncoast

The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast is an independent not-for-profit organization formed for the express purpose of ensuring a permanent home for the Perlman Music Program Winter Residency in Sarasota, Florida held for two weeks each December.

alt The Perlman Music Program /Suncoast works closely with internationally acclaimed violinist and conductor, Itzhak Perlman and his wife and founder of PMP, Toby Perlman, to provide a uniquely intensive two week residency for approximately 35 exceptionally talented young musicians (ages 12-20+) participating in the internationally renowned The Perlman Music Program.

This Sarasota Winter Residency is only one part of a year-round music education program providing mentoring, coaching and guidance for an exclusive group of string musicians of unique and special talent chosen from applicants from around the world.  Each summer, PMP students convene on Shelter Island, New York to participate in the six-week Summer Music School and two-week Chamber Music Workshop under the care of the Perlman’s and an equally exceptional faculty roster.  Regular mentorship opportunities are offered throughout the school year for students and alumni including concert series at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Neue Galerie.

The intensive two-week Sarasota Winter Residency held in late December each year is hosted  in partnership with University of South Florida Sarasota Manatee. Activities include daily free public events such as open orchestra and chorus rehearsals, masterclasses by PMP faculty members, and Works-in-Progress recitals which attract over 12,000 audience members each year. The culmination of the program is the grand annual benefit Celebration Concert and Dinner taking place at the Sarasota Opera House on Saturday, January 8, 2011.

Now in its second season, the PMP/Suncoast Education Outreach Program provides unique music education experiences for more than 3,000 students in Sarasota County and Manatee County schools during the academic year.

PMP/Suncoast is supported through funds raised throughout the year and at its Perlman and Pearls gala.  Donations and volunteer participation are always welcome.

The PMP / Suncoast welcomes young musicians of rare and special talent in southwest Forida into a richly supportive music community.
