The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast hosts a full schedule of free and ticketed events during the intensive Sarasota Winter Residency each year.  Many people first experience talents of PMP musicians at the free public events in the tent at the University of South Florida Sarasota Manatee campus by reserving event passes in advance to attend orchestra and chorus rehearsals or works-in-progress recitals.  Some events are often held in the community as well.  The culminating experience is the Celebration Concert led by Itzhak Perlman and featuring the entire student body and faculty of The Perlman Music Program.

Overview of 2010-2011 Events:

Daily FREE Events, which primarily take place in the performance tent at USF Sarasota Manatee, are open to the public throughout the two week residency and include:

  • Orchestra Rehearsals – Witness the PMP chamber orchestra of approximately 35 PMP students rehearse under the baton of Itzhak Perlman. Audience members receive the rare opportunity of experiencing the “stop and go” rehearsal techniques of Mr. Perlman in addition to hearing his comments to the orchestra as he wears a microphone throughout the entire rehearsal.

• Chorus Rehearsals – Observe rehearsals of a chorus comprised of PMP students, PMP faculty members, and select male voices from the community as they sing together under the direction of Chorus Master Patrick Romano.

• Master Classes – See PMP faculty working one-on-one with individual PMP students.  Master classes are public settings most accurately portraying the private lesson and closed studio class experience PMP students receive on a regular basis.

• Works-in-Progress Recitals – Hear individual and small groups of PMP students perform standard repertoire studied in private lessons and chamber music coaching sessions.  Selections vary with each recital and may include movements of concertos, sonatas, and other chamber works.  All performers and pieces are announced from the stage.

• Celebration Concert is the culmination of the two-week residency and serves as the benefit concert for the program.  Tickets are on sale through the Sarasota Opera House Box Office beginning October 15.  Become a member and receive benefits including advance ticket sales.

• Celebration Concert & Gala Dinner is the main fundraiser for the entire program.  Sponsors of The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast are invited to attend this elegant and celebratory event including premium seating for the concert and the opportunity to dine with the Perlmans and the PMP students and faculty.  Make your reservation today by becoming a sponsor (beginning at $500 per person).
