PMP/S Education Outreach Program
In 2009, PMP/Suncoast, with the support and cooperation of The Juilliard School, Columbia University’s Teacher College, Toby and Itzhak Perlman, and the faculty of The Perlman Music Program, began offering education outreach programs for Sarasota and Manatee county schools. Our year-round Education Outreach Program brings alumni of The Perlman Music Program, who are now professional musicians, into elementary, middle and high schools in Sarasota and Manatee counties. These curriculum-based, in-school experiences include performances and interactive, hands-on training for students and teachers.
In the past three years, members of such celebrated string ensembles as the LK String Quartet, the Vinca Quartet and the Ariel String Quartet have visited more than 25 regional schools, interacting with thousands of students and teachers. These three-week, in-school residencies are sponsored and entirely funded by PMP/Suncoast through grants and sponsorships.
The Education Outreach Program is led by long-time music educator and PMP/Suncoast board member Barbara Staton. Cindy Balistreri, the former fine arts program specialist for the School Board of Sarasota County, serves as the program's consultant for developing the curriculum-based programming.
